Medan Trip : Part 3

Morning all! It's 1.30am and I'm still not in the mood to sleep. So let me just continue with the last part of my Medan trip in October 2012.

So we were already in Berastagi by end of the 2nd day of our 4 days trip. Berastagi, the highlands just outside Medan (around 2.5 hours drive from Medan) offers great views of a valley and is the place to search for really fresh fruits and vegetables so don't forget to get some for yourselves. And not to forget to mention the weather is so cool and fresh. After a night in Berastagi we left for Medan, our final destination of our tour package.
Morning view from our hotel Danau Toba Internation Cottage in Berastagi. (Lawa sangatttt)

Our hotel front view...

The Medan gang...

Horses everywhere in Berastagi... Try to spot 2 horses! :D

On the way to Medan we stopped by this temple. The thing that crossed my mind was this temple was purposely built only for tourism purposes. Like really in the middle of nowhere suddenly this temple is there. Huhu someone is trying too much lorrrr. :P

This church is called the Velangkani Church. Very unique design indeed. And this church is already in the area of Medan. (Masa ni panas nak mampuih kuar bas amik pic terus masuk balik bas takde nak nengok2 da pon dalam church huhu.)

In Medan, we went to the Royal Palace. The current King still lives at a private wing of the palace. Other parts of the palace are open to public. After his father died of a plane crash, the young prince (pictured) became the youngest Sultan of Deli. Became the Sultan at the age of  8.

Medan city itself don't really have much to offer other than some shopping experiences and a little sight seeing. So when you plan on going to Medan, don't just stay in Medan. Go take a tour package and visit Berastagi and Lake Toba. That is the purpose of AirAsia going to Medan anyway. As an entry point for tourists to go to Lake Toba. So don't miss it okay. Lake Toba is a must! Especially if you are into sceneries. Even if you are not, you will be wowed I assure you. :)

All in all....our Medan trip was really worth it for RM540 only for 4D3N. Only that it was a bit tiring (eh betul ke eja nih? :P). Penat sket sbb byk kali travel dlm bus. The travelling time in the bus was a bit boring but if you were with our gang then its a bit different la coz everybody is crazy. Hehe. So I still recommend you guys to go to Medan at least once in a lifetime okayyyy. Lake Toba Lake Toba Lake Toba! :D

Medan Trip October 2012 : Part 2

Hi! Now back to the Medan story... anyway I did mention in the previous Medan entry that we took the local tour package from here in Malaysia... The package covered EVERYTHING. From the moment we landed until the very last day when we were sent back to the airport going back to KL. All transportation, accommodation and 3 meals a day for RM540 per person for 4D3N package.Yeah we did and it was really a breeze. I found this website while googling for packages and was intrigued by the cheap packages that they offer (yeah when it comes to Mr.Mon everything must be cheap cheap cheap! Haha!) so I browsed through the website and finally took their package. I was really amazed with their service. I did call to ask some question and they have a very well equipped customer service centre. How I know this....coz I did call several times and everytime I called different person answered me everytime. And they also were very efficient in responding to my emails.

So I am recommending this company to you if you are looking for tour packages and they cover almost all of Asia and also to Maldives even. Their website is : www.cuti.my

Ok enough of me giving people free advertising....back to Medan.

1st day arrive at Medan airport we rode the bus for 6 hours to this nice hotel in Parapat. This hotel is exactly by the shores of the Lake Toba with very very beautiful views of the vistas. *haha mcm over pulak description

The view from my room balcony...Oooh so beautifullll. The land in front is Samosir Island. The only island (as big as Singapore) in the middle of Lake Toba.

Our room... Not bad. (Boley larrrrr :P)

View from hotel lobby area... Meletop!

View of Lake Toba from hotel swimming pool... So beautiful. I still cry everytime I see this pic. *mode exaggerate :P
The town of Parapat in the background...

Early morning on 2nd day we boarded a small ferry to Samosir Island for a day trip. The ferry had 2 floors. Or deck. The lower deck is the covered one and this picture shows the upper deck with the open air viewing area. Do go up here and stay here if you plan to take the same tour. The wind was so cool that we did not even feel the sun's glare.
During our day trip to Samosir Island we went to a Batak village. This is a typical Batak home. Batak people originated from Samosir Island. The encloser below are for their livestocks such as chicken, duck and oink oink! :P

After Samosir Island day trip we departed for a 4 hour trip to our 2nd night accomodation at Berastagi. Medan's version of Cameron Higlands. On the way we spotted this magnificent lagoon and begged the bus driver to stop for picture taking. Hehehe. Worth it!

Also stopped by this very famous Sipiso Piso Waterfall. We didn't have time to walk to the bottom to take a dip since it was an hour trekking down and up! Plus it was also getting dark. Sigh...
Hahaha seriously the idea seemed really cool when I thought of it in my head! Haha! I look like someone giving birth! :P
Finally we arrived at Berastagi just after dark and stopped by this fruit and vegetable market. Fruits were really fresh coming from the 'kebun's all around the area. Bought 'buah salak' which was really crunchy and sweet! Yummy! My friends bought 'buah delima' which was nice too and another friend bought the 'alaa pisang yg bulat tu'. Sedappppp! :)

We finally arrived at our hotel in Berastagi...also named Danau Toba Cottage. We were then informed that it was a chain hotel that also has a more grandeur branch in Medan. *pls ignore my friend who's searching for the hotel's wifi. Hav to check in lorrrr baru sampai kannn... :P
Well....that was the 2nd day of our tour package. I will continue soon on the next part ya. Hav a great day/night all!

Medan Trip October 2012 : Part 1

So just a few months ago in October 2012, my friends and I finally went to Medan after a few years of me wanting to really go there (sbb selalu tgk promo AirAsia mmg laaa murah sgt ke Medan nih). I've always been dreaming to see the famous Lake Toba (Famous sgt ke hehe. Bole la kan...)You see...everytime AirAsia does any promotion, Medan always got ignored by my friends and I...(ntah la...terlalu excited tengok destinasi2 lain yg konon lebih menarik kannn.)...So we finally managed to agree to spend a few ringgit, (and I literally mean a few...not even more than RM100) to see what Medan could offer us and for the first time we got a tour package locally in Malaysia since many people advice us to do so.... and here is how it went...

As usual... Pic after arriving at the destinantion airport...(Alamak baru perasan lupa nak shave the stubbles! huhuhu)

Our tour guide Pak Tak Ingat Dah Nama Dia...Very informative and he's the one incharge of us for the whole 4D3N trip. Very good and speaks English well too.

Our home on the road for 4D3N... So from Medan Airport, we were headed straight for a 6 hour trip to Parapat for a 1 night stay just by the Lake Toba.
En route to Parapat we dropped by for a hearty lunch which my friends and I, haha ate like a pig! So it was actually hearty to the group of people travelling with us but not to us :P (Masing2 dah kelaparan sangat buat malu je dgn tourist lain yg join tour group kami haha)

Still en route to Parapat we stop by a temple and this was the main attraction to me...this was on the 2nd floor of the 2 storey temple.

Along the way....we saw this...our Pak Tour Guide told us that it is their culture (the Batak People) to put up these large signages made from small petals of artificial flowers to wish people marriage, farewell, death and so on. Interesting right...?

This is the first view of Lake Toba when approaching Parapat....the town just by the edge of Lake Toba.

We finally arrived at our hotel in Parapat...the Danau Toba Cottage. Our balcony overlooking the majestic Lake Toba! Breathtaking! Love it! :)

TO BE CONTINUED.....
